Will iPhone Become More Expensive in India?

iPhones in India may soon become more expensive — not just because Apple wants to, but because of new taxes (called tariffs) added by the U.S. government on products made in countries like China.

If Apple decides to pass these extra costs to buyers, iPhone prices in India could go up by 30% to 40%.

For example, the iPhone 16, which costs $799 in the U.S., might go up to $1,142 after the new tax. And when you add Indian taxes like import duty and GST, the price of high-end models could easily cross ₹1 lakh.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max, which has a big 6.9-inch screen and 1TB storage, is priced at $1,599 in the U.S. With the new tax, it could cost around $2,300 globally!

In India, this means the most premium iPhones will become super expensive — more than ever before.

Why is this happening?

The U.S. wants to reduce its dependence on Chinese factories. So, former President Donald Trump announced new taxes on Chinese-made goods. This is to encourage companies like Apple to make products in other countries like Mexico.

A report from Reuters says Apple may have to raise iPhone prices by at least 30% worldwide to handle these new costs. But since iPhone sales are already going down in many countries, this could be risky for Apple.

Some experts believe Apple may wait until the iPhone 17 comes out to increase prices. So, they might be buying some time.
